Spending her childhood in the US and in Zimbabwe, Montana Forbes is now lives in London. She enjoys exploring quirky stores, discovering foreign cities and cultures, and she collects feathers and shoes. She is also obsessed with bamboo and bonsai trees.
Montana has no formal art training but studied Visual Communications at university, where she became interested in graphic design and the use of computers.
Researching and collecting visual references of a subject matter is the first part of her approach. After getting together a pool of ideas she starts doodling and sketching in pencil. Later on, Photoshop is used to develop and tweak the image, and to apply the colour.
Montana has a clear, minimal, pared-back style. Her aim is to capture a timeless sensibility in her images, and one that people can easily relate to.
