With more than a decade’s experience in illustration and concept art, Nathan has deployed his dark, moody and fantastical imagery in everything from pirate storybooks to Emmy Award-winning TV series. Growing up in a Liverpool suburb, obsessed with both drawing and computer games, Nathan sees drawing as a kind of magic.
At first thinking his drawing skills wouldn’t pay, Nathan studied multimedia and animation. He shifted into illustration after graduation, but the skills he gained mean he’s Photoshop proficient, an able animator, designs web pages and is an established character designer.
Nathan usually begins an image on paper to define the composition, then moves into Photoshop where it usually becomes something very different. To practice, he loves sketching people in public places like stations and airports, where they’re likely to shift position often forcing him to work fast to capture them.
Most of his works are dark and moody, with a hint of magic and often a smack of humour too. He thrives on action scenes, capturing the dramatic moments or the key characters like monsters, villains and heroes. Recently, he’s released his inner teenager and has been creating pin-ups.
