Waldo's Special Ale

Friday, April 29, 2016

Nigel Sussman works for Lagunitas Brewing Company to create an intriguing and detailed poster for their special ale.

Special events have been taking place all over the US to coincide with the release of the beer where Nigel's posters were printed and given away, the art is also used in social media and website marketing. Nigel says "This beer is an annual special collaboration between the “Waldos”, who are a group of 5 guys from San Rafael who originated the term “420” as slang for using cannabis, and the owner of Lagunitas Brewery. This poster combines references of beer brewing, cannabis culture, all in a “Where’s Waldo” style seek-and-find illustration."

Say Media commission Nigel Sussman to paint a 15x9ft mural on the wall of their offices in Portland, Oregon.

Nigel created a design incorporating the client's requested themes of succulents, jewel orchids and bridges of Portland. Nigel included  Fremont Bridge, Burnside Bridge, and Ross Island Bridge and says "...of course there is some pizza, beer, bicycle, and hamburger hidden among the foliage....I did the illustration digitally to scale and then translated it onto the wall in 1.5 days of painting on site using latex house paint and a brush."
