Alyssa De Asis

Overview

Combining elements from nature with vibrant colours and whimsical characters and settings, Filipino artist Alyssa De Assis crafts stunning illustrations that always have a unique, light-hearted feel.

“I just love incorporating flowers, leaves and other types of plants into my illustrations, and it fascinates me to create new worlds that are strongly influenced by nature,” she says.

With a background as a graphic designer and experience working in digital agencies, Alyssa knows the ropes from both the client and the artist’s perspective. It was her lifelong love of drawing that led her to become a freelance illustrator, which to her is a life of happiness expressing herself through her creativity. When she’s not drawing or taking photos, she loves to travel and explore new cultures.

Training

Alyssa has a bachelor degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Visual Design and Communication, from St Scholastica's College in Manila.

Approach

Working digitally in Photoshop, Alyssa’s favourites include the Brush and Pen tools, for establishing her line work. After drawing and painting digitally, she loves layering in natural textures to give her work a real world and traditional feel.

Style

Many of Alyssa’s images immediately make you think of children’s illustration, an area she excels in, although her style also suites editorial, fashion and publishing clients. Vibrant, fun, light-hearted and whimsical are all words that spring to mind. There are elements of nature in everything she does, and some of her more conceptual images also range towards surrealism.
