Gail Armstrong's Solo Exhibition

Gail's 'first commission' of landmark Glasgow buildings

Gail Armstrong is excited to be having her first solo exhibition in London this month.

Gail's engineered pieces will be framed and for sale in this display of her work celebrating an illustration career of some 25 years....so far! In preparing for the exhibition, Gail stumbled across a postcard of what was her first ever illustration commission - having seen her Degree Show at Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Tourist Board asked Gail to create a paper sculpture of landmark Glasgow buildings, including the Mackintosh building of the Art School. She says "Given my close connections to the art school - Degree, Postgraduate, first commission, met my future husband there, married in the Mackintosh building, still have close friends active in the art school - I was devastated as I watched the iconic building I know so well, seemingly being destroyed by fire. And now I am immensely relieved that the fire was contained and the damage limited. I have decided therefore, to donate half of any profits from the exhibition to the Mackintosh Building Fire Fund. It seems appropriate to acknowledge the art school in my first solo exhibition, when it has been so significant in my life and career."

The show starts this Friday 6th June and continues until 4th July at The Railway Telegraph, Forest Hill, London SE23 1BS.
