The Last Chip

Telling the story of a very hungry pigeon, Duncan Beedie's third picture book is published by Templar.

Percy the pigeon is so hungry and in this delightful story we follow him on his journey to fill his tummy, with adorable illustrations by Duncan. He explains the plot, "You can toss aside that old adage of  'never judge a book by its cover' for this one, as the title pretty much tells the story. 'Percy', our puny protagonist, flutters from railway station to park to seaside, seeking out any morsel of food he can find, only to discover that the bolshier birds have beaten him to it. His quest for some grub results in quite a few scrapes, but ultimately sees him strike up a new, important friendship. In a diversion from my previous books, this one is set a little closer to home (well, literally in my home town of Bristol) so those of you familiar with the city may notice a landmark or two. Furthermore, the story touches on the themes of homelessness and hunger; themes that have become increasingly prevalent in recent years, not just in Bristol but all over the UK. Don’t worry, it’s still a kid-friendly picture book, with funny bits (I hope)." Duncan is also donating 10% of the profits from The Last Chip to The Trussell Trust – the nationwide food bank charity and is also selling original giclée prints of the book’s artwork here, with all of net profits going to the homeless charity Caring in Bristol.
